The 19th of February 2015 will be the beginning of of the 4712th year of the Chinese calendar. It will be the year of the Goat. The Chinese New Year is the second New Moon after the Winter Solstice. It is based strictly on astronomical observations. Due to its scientific and mathematical nature, we can easily and precisely calculate backward or forward for thousands of years. That is why the Lunar calendar is favored and used among the Ninja. In the Chinese calendar, one of the schemes for counting years is a 12-year cycle. In modern mathematics, this is called a "Modulo 12." Instead of inventing 12 special symbols to signify this cycle, the Chinese masters poetically use 12 animals to represent these 12 years. The Goat, Sheep or Ram in this sequence represents the 8th year of the 12 year cycle. The Chinese calendar uses a cycle of sixty years, five elemental periods (Earth, Water, Fire, Air, Wood) of twelve years, each symbolically related to a specific animal, to indicate the nature of that year. As we have seen in 2012, Dragon years are full of turmoil. Snake years are usually more of the same, only less.

The Sheep (Goat) is a Yin energy, a symbol of Peace, Harmonious co-existence and Tranquility. That is the primary and fundamental mood for this year. Though there are cries for War and a countdown is soon to begin, but – War will be averted and a period of mending and compromise will be undertaken to ensure Peace is maintained.

The Sheep is the symbol of the Arts. It relates to passive and nurturing times. It will help the healing process with regard to past events caused by individuals who have little respect for the human race or life itself. It will be a year of banding together in faith and in belief that good will prevail and win out over the forces that refuse to comply to a peaceful way of life. The emphasis will be on joining forces in order to fight the evil and destruction that has been brewing.
